Nasal Allergy (Allergic Rhinitis)
What is Nasal Allergy (Allergic Rhinitis)?
It is commonly known as Stuff Nose, an irritation & Inflammation of the internal area of the nose. The primary symptom is Nasal Dripping.
What is the cause of Nasal Allergy?
It is caused by chronic or acute inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose due to Virus, Bacteria or Irritants. The inflammation generates excessive amount of mucous which then lead to Runny Nose, Nasal Congestion and Post Nasal Dripping.
What is the consequence of having Nasal Allergy?
The inflammation can be so bad that it caused the nasal mucosa to swell up so badly that there can hardly be any air entry through the nose so the patient has to open the mouth to breath. This would defeat the benefit of using the nose to breath and eventually affect the quality of sleep. The Post Nasal Dripping would also give rise to allergy cough in a lot of Nasal Allergy patients. As this excessive uncontrolled nasal dripping enter from the nasal cavity to the bronchioles would cause the patient to choking cough. This is different from the Bronchitis or Pneumonia kind of cough which is usually just a short burst of dry cough as compared to the congested productive cough but very annoying and irritating though non-infectious.
What is the benefit of using the nose to breath?
Inside our nose, there is a lot of blood capillaries which serves to warm the air before it enters into the Bronchus. This is especially important during the winter time, so air going to the lungs would be quickly brought to our body temperature instead of giving a shock or too drastic change of temperature to the lung circulation. Or in layman term, not so easy to catch cold. The fine hair inside the nostril would also serve as a primary defense to trap the dirt particles in the air from going to the lungs, so if you are not breathing through the nose, the dust (including the germs) in the air might enter into the body system directly.
What is bad about breathing through the mouth?
First of all, letʼs have a brief Anatomy. The nostrils only connect to the trachea, then to
bronchus, bronchioles, etc. If you breath through the nose, air would only be able to enter
to the lungs and no where else. But if you breathe through the mouth, part of the air would
go to the lungs but some might enter to the stomach and gives you a bloating feeling.
That might be one of the reason why people with Nasal Allergy fart more than others. How
embarrassing!
Just imagine if you have to open the mouth to breathe all the time, you would lose a lot of
moisture to the surrounding and makes your mouth dry up quickly which is very
uncomfortable. eg. sleeping 8 hours with the mouth wide open is very unhealthy.
What is the role of Microcurrent on Nasal Allergy?
Microcurrent is the Current of Regeneration. By applying Microcurrent through the 8 special Acu-points surrounding the nose would be able to naturally clear the inflammation, improve the microcirculation of the nasal mucosa, drain away all the toxic substance that has been blocking the area, thereby directing the fresh nutrients to the area, immediately clear the nose.
How would you feel right after the treatment?
You would feel you can breathe through the nose for the first time ever since you have a block nose right after the treatment. Let me tell you, this is a very happy experience. I can tell from the facial expression of all my patients after the treatment. Many of them have nasal allergy for decades especially here in Hong Kong, the air pollution is so bad that predispose to the condition.
How long would the effect last?
It varies. Most of them lasts for a few hours for the first time. So thatʼs why I would suggest you to take a course of 10 sessions to reinforce the result. Very probable within the 10 sessions, your nasal allergy would be able to clear. But I canʼt guarantee. Some might need to take another course to get a long lasting result. Some might not. My experience is I have treated a case of severe nasal allergy for more than 30 years to be able to clear with 1 session. Reason is this is a gentleman from Singapore that after one treatment he has to leave Hong Kong. So I was not able to give him any follow up therapy. After a few months that I have a chance to meet him again, he told me his nasal allergy has totally gone even after a bad cold. Actually it is now after more than 5 years, still no sign of recurrence.
Would the Microcurrent treatment affect your sleep, including your partner, wife or husband?
Yes, in a good way! This is the side benefit of having Microcurrent Therapy. Other than
able to breathe freely without the need to open the mouth to sleep, the incidence of
snoring also reduced. Usually this is reported by the wife telling me they can also sleep a
lot better as well.
I used Microcurrent to treat Insomnia and correct Jet Lag as well. But funny enough, all
patients (99%) would report they can sleep a lot better, a much deeper sleep after the
treatment irrespective of the location of the therapy, ie. not necessary to be a special
procedure for the treatment of Insomnia.
If it is environmental - due to pollution or caused by certain irritants eg. hay fever, why Microcurrent would be able to help even the cause is not eliminated?
First of all, not everybody expose to dust or pollen would develop nasal allergy. In my personal opinion, it is just your bodyʼs reaction to the environment. We used Microcurrent to correct the inflammatory process of the nasal cavity would be able to give a signal to your body to readjust to this change. You might say to boost your self defence mechanism or to improve your immunity system.
Is it encouraged to continue the medication to prevent recurrence?
We suggest you to stop the medication for Nasal Allergy before we start the Microcurrent Therapy. Reason is we prefer to have a true picture of your bodyʼs reaction to the treatment. If without the medication, you can breathe freely then the chance that you need to go back to the medicine is very small. A lot of this medication would give you side effect of drowsiness and dry up your system. Actually this is one of the reason why patients with Nasal Allergy has higher incidence of Nasal Bleeding. Itʼs because the medication dry up the nasal cavity in order to control the mucous but it would also make the blood capillaries brittle so easy to break & bleed.
Compare Microcurrent to taking Medication & Surgery
Medication used in Nasal Allergy are to control or suppress the symptoms. The longer you take the medication, the more your body dependent on it and eventually it would be very difficult to wean off. Frankly if it is the side effects of the medicine that entails, the cost of the medication and the inconvenience of carrying the medicine is minimal. But very often, it is even taking the medication still unable to clear the symptoms, that is frustrating. Surgery would involve cut away the swollen nasal septum to clear the air passage, which sounds like a more permanent method of settling the problem, but surgery is a surgery. If there is a more simple, efficient way by just using Microcurrent without side effect, this should be the priority of choice of treatment.
